Practical Love

A humanitarian ministry in practice

We decided to be part of the solution.

Practical Love is housing, food, and community on an urban duplex — for people who have historically been left out.

An urban duplex becoming an ecosystem.

Two units, eight bedrooms, gardens, a food forest, a pond, solar — and rainwater on the way.

What is Practical Love?

Practical Love is a humanitarian ministry and urban co-living project putting its values to work: housing people who have faced barriers, growing food, and building community on an urban duplex in transformation.

Why we exist

Belief should move.

We believe people should be free to practice their own beliefs — whatever those are — and we believe those beliefs should show up as action. Too many people are left out of the things that make life stable: housing, food, community, and a stake in what they help build.

We live with housing insecurity, food insecurity, isolation, environmental damage, and barriers to ownership and belonging all around us. We decided we could be part of the problem or part of the solution. We chose the solution. This is what that looks like in practice.

Questions

People ask us things.

Is Practical Love a church?

No. We're a humanitarian ministry with a spiritual emphasis. The closest philosophical tradition is Unitarian Universalism, but we're not formally affiliated with it. People of all traditions and none are welcome.

Is this an investment with returns?

No. Nothing here is an offer to sell securities, and there are no guaranteed returns. We're exploring an eight-partner ownership model — the details are TBD.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Not yet. We intend to establish a 501(c)(3), and that status is currently TBD. Until it exists, we can't promise deductibility.
